Net metering, wind energy measure passes the Assembly

AB 178, making it possible for larger renewable energy projects to contribute power to the grid, and creating incentives for wind power, passed out of the Assembly yesterday, 42 to 0.
After long negotiations, this legislation has pushed the envelope for other net metering bills this session in Carson City. Under the bill’s raises to […]

On mountain lions and the partnerships needed to manage wildlife

AB 259 has generated emails and letters like no other so far this session. The bill’s preamble has understandably caused concern:
AN ACT relating to wildlife; classifying a wild mountain lion as an unprotected mammal; designating the Department of Wildlife as the Department of Fish and Game; placing the Department under the control of the Board […]

Commerce and Labor: “Do pass as amended” on energy bill

After long negotiations with Sierra Pacific Resources, an amended version of my bill to expand the practice of net metering and create a wind power demonstration program was passed by the Assembly Commerce and Labor committee this afternoon. State Environmental Commission bill hearing today!

This afternoon in Assembly Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining, I’ll be presenting AB 217, which will revise the composition of the State Environmental Commission. While the commission includes dedicated seats for representatives of […]

Renewable energy bill heard in Assembly Commerce & Labor

AB 178 will raise the “net metering” cap to provide incentive for larger-scale renewable energy projects, and create a wind power incentive program. Net metering is the ability to receive credits on a power bill from excess energy contributed to the grid from a renewable energy […]

State of the State

Last night Governor Gibbons delivered his State of the State address. If you missed it on T.V., you can still watch the address or read it.
Here are just a few of my thoughts following the Governor’s address:
Water
The Governor has proposed a study of our water resources and I look forward to this discussion on how […]

Our energy future

Hot off the heals of an opinion from the Las Vegas Sun (”Energy plan long overdue”) comes an article in today’s Nevada Appeal, “Nevada lawmakers to get batch of energy proposals.” Details and links after the jump…

We Love Nevada: Another fire season, and more impacts to Nevada’s wildlife

This morning’s Reno Gazette-Journal’s story about the Jackass Flat Fire’s impacts to sage grouse habitat in Nevada is incredibly timely given the number of conversations I’ve had at the door with sportsmen and people who treasure Nevada’s wildlife. Wildlife management in Nevada is a particularly tricky endeavor. Urban development, scarce water, and unrelenting wild fire seasons present challenges to the protection of habitat and sustaining of wildlife populations. Photo and more after the jump…

We Love Nevada: Nevada Conservation League endorsement

At a press conference happening today tomorrow in Las Vegas, the Nevada Conservation League will announce its support for our campaign.

I’m the only challenger they’re backing in this year’s slate of legislative candidates. NCL believes that “the most effective way to preserve our quality of life in Nevada is to ensure that leaders who will […]
