Thoughts and Prayers for Brianna
Lisa and I just watched the news conference delivering the sad news about Brianna. For the past few weeks, the search for Brianna, and her attacker, has been front and center in the minds and hearts of Northern Nevadans. My wife Lisa typically parks for work near the house where Brianna was taken, and Lisa’s blessed with co-workers who are watching out for each other and have given her rides to her vehicle in the evenings.
I’m proud of this community for how they have banded together in response to these horrible attacks. In order to implement the law the Legislature passed last session to take DNA samples of criminals, myself and members of the Washoe delegation have joined with others in the community and donated funds to complete the analysis work.
I’m proud of the students at UNR who have stepped up to find ways to make the campus safer. I joined with ASUN senators, students, administrators and members of the Old Northwest Neighborhood Advisory Board the Thursday before last on a safety walk to examine problem areas in and around campus. I wish the students well in their efforts to make their environment a place free from violence.
It is important to note that the police believe the suspect is still in the area, and that it is possible he could strike again. Please be vigilant, and contact the authorities if you have any information that could help bring the attacker to justice.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Denison family this afternoon. At the family’s request, Lisa just tied a blue ribbon to our mailbox, where it will remain until Brianna is laid to rest.
