John Edwards for President

After much consideration, I’ve chosen my candidate in this year’s Nevada Democratic Presidential Caucus: John Edwards.

John EdwardsThis is a phenomenal time. With our country facing serious challenges with national security, addressing global warming, ensuring a strong economic future for working families, to name just a few, 2008 will be an incredibly important election year. And thankfully, we’ve got an amazingly strong field of Democratic candidates seeking to rise to these challenges. I enjoyed meeting with them, hearing their plans for America, and I wish them all the best.

But at the end of the day, I’ve got to go with John Edwards. John Edwards has led the way with big ideas to tackle our challenges. On health care and energy, two issues important to my constituents, his plans have blazed the trail in policy debates. His brave willingness to talk about the “two Americas” and his commitment to ending poverty speak right to the heart of the challenge I see facing us all as Nevadans: how are we going to build ourselves up and prosper in the face of our 21st century global economic reality?

I want to thank everyone I spoke with about their views on the Presidential Caucus. It’s truly amazing to see the energy and enthusiasm everyone has for their chosen candidates- thanks for sharing!

I was down in Las Vegas today for a meeting of the State Council to Establish Academic Standards (report coming soon), traveled back in time to make it to the Peace Officers Research Association of Nevada post-legislative dinner, and am just now concluding my day by going through emails. I’ll be writing more about my support for Senator Edwards in the days to come. For now, here is the media advisory that went out today:
