Live blogging: Meth hits the Legislature
If you happen to catch this as soon as I post, tune in and watch online (live only) the joint meeting of the Assembly Health and Human Resources and Senate Human Resources and Education committees.
The topic? Methamphetamine. I’ve written about this plenty so will spare you the background. What you need to know is that the hearing room is PACKED with people- suffice it to say, the Legislature is listening.
Right now, Rob Bovett, Assistant County Counsel from Lincoln County, Oregon is presenting information on the drug as well as possible solutions. You’ve seen Rob before if you’ve taken time to watch the PBS Frontline special. I first met Rob when he presented last year to a community forum hosted by Join Together Northern Nevada. Welcome back Rob!
I’ve heard too many stories and seen this drug waste too many lives. Stay tuned for more on how we as a state can come together to combat this drug. Hats off to all my fellow legislators for being willing to take this issue on.

I’m still interested in knowing what the legislature has done about drug testing of state employees and/or what they have done to “fight” the use of meth and other illegal drugs. I understand that a bill to have OC drugs used to make meth acquired by prescription only was blocked. Home Depot requires testing. How about the people who make our laws, run our state government and teach our children?
