Planning for the future: Academic Standards Council appointment

One reason I ran for office was my desire to better prepare Nevada students for the jobs of tomorrow. In addition to bringing this focus to the halls of the legislative building starting next month, I’ve been given the privilege to serve on Nevada’s Council to Establish Academic Standards.

Born out of Nevada legislative reforms in the late 90’s, the council creates standards for Nevada’s k-12 students with the goal of greater academic achievement.

Improving education for our young people was a conversation I had numerous times with voters at the door throughout the campaign- thank you all for your ideas and perspectives. I’ve written extensively on this subject here on the weblog, and I look forward to bringing my knowledge of career and technical education, and information technology, to this important group.

In other news, the Las Vegas Review Journal’s Erin Neff provided a look ahead to the legislative session and my freshman class in yesterday’s edition. I’m still working on the legislation metioned in the piece and look forward to sharing details with you soon.
