Millennium Scholarship and Senior Rx face continued challenges
A post today on Anjeanette Damon’s blog at RGJ.com covers the challenges both the Millennium Scholarship and Senior Rx program face from a possible reduction in tobacco settlement funds. After working to extend the scholarship in the last legislative session, Nevada currently faces a $7 million shortfall in payments this quarter as a result of an arbitrator’s decision.
The Millennium scholarship has been successful in retaining college students (such as me) here in Nevada and the Senior Rx program has recently softened the rough edges of the Medicare Part D prescription drug program faced by many of our seniors. Knowing that the funding for these programs will continue to be an issue, we’ll need strong representation in Carson City for 2007 to sustain these programs that make it possible for Nevadans to excel academically and retain a good quality of life as they get older.
