More photos from the caucus

We’ve got a few more photos from Saturday’s caucus. Read the full post to view them.

Firing it up at the precinct caucuses

The Washoe Dems held their precinct caucuses today, and Team Bobzien was there to join in the fun! I had the privilege to chat with a number of voters in the district about the issues that concern them and about the need for stronger representation in Carson City. Thanks to everyone who came, and to the volunteers that helped us sign up even more volunteers. Photos after the jump.

The 411 on health, human services in Nevada, now available by calling 211

Need assistance with expensive energy bills? Trying to figure out how best to enroll in the Medicare Part D program? Need to help your brother find a job?

Ice rink report

For those of you who receive my e-mail newsletter, you’ll remember me mentioning the opening of the downtown Reno ice rink in November. As reported by Reno blogger Yukon Sully last week, the city is dealing with the unseasonably warm weather by covering the rink during the day to try to protect the ice. In the face of the warm forecast for the next few days, the city will try to conserve as much ice time as possible by opening the rink for the noon hour, covering it during the warm afternoons, and then reopening the rink in the evening.

Your driver’s license, your Social Security number- they don’t belong together

News this morning that the DMV was “caught by surprise” by a new federal law prohibiting the placement of Social Security numbers on driver’s license: “Many Nevadans have Social Security numbers on licenses, ID cards.”

World’s largest solar photovoltaic project coming to Nevada

News tonight on the energy front: World’s Largest Solar Photovoltaic Project to be Built in Nevada. Another installment in Nevada’s continued success in leading the nation in renewable energy, thanks in part to our Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) which mandates that 20% of our energy procurred by our state’s utility companies come from renewable sources.

Relaxation

Well the Seahawks just couldn’t catch a break today, but oh well, the enchiladas, chips and dip over at Lisa’s mom’s house made for a good time with family watching the game. Earlier today, Lisa and I finally had a chance to get up to Mt. Rose together for the first time this season. Photo after the jump.

A window to the Legislature: Assemblywoman Barbara Buckley interview

As I talk to friends and neighbors about my race, many of them have questions about just what the State Assembly does. It’s my goal to provide a window to the process for my neighbors in District 24. My ability to serve as an effective representative will depend on my ability to communicate to the voters what’s happening in Carson City. With that information, they can provide me with input and feedback as I make decisions as to which bills I vote for, what legislation I work on, etc.

“We need a website”

NPR’s Morning Edition had a good piece today on the lackluster online efforts of the federal Department of Homeland Security, specifically the release of a kid’s site that is largely a reguritation of content from the FEMA website.
