Nevada blogosphere continues to expand

Two more weblogs have recently popped up on the Nevada political landscape.

The first is written by Reno Gazette-Journal political reporter Anjeanette Damon: Inside Nevada Politics. The name says it all. Here’s to more journalists (and politicians?) joining the blogosphere.

The second is an anonymous blog: Desert Beacon. This week, the blog featured an exceptionally relevant post to the growth of the politically-oriented blogosphere pointing to Salon.com writer Peter Daou’s call for a “functioning triangle” between politicians and bloggers.

Unfortunately, this weblog doesn’t allow commenting unless you have a Blogger account (like I need one more account username and password to remember.) Further, there’s no contact information listed to allow me to ask for permission to post a comment. Oh well, I’ll post my comment here and hope the blog writer catches the trackback:

Daou, and for that matter everyone else who’s picked a bone with the leadership of the Democratic Party nationally about the failure to “get” internet politics, is spot on in arguing for strengthening the conversation between politicians and the blogosphere.

But the responsibility goes both ways. It’s encouraging the numerous politically-oriented weblogs that have sprouted up in Nevada in the past six months. Traditional media simply can’t cover the issues of the day as comprehensively and rapidly as bloggers can (no blame here, just recognizing the institutional and market-driven barriers journalists face). Here’s hoping blogs continue to develop to better deliver the information and commentary necessary for Nevadans to direct and hold our elected officials accountable as they deal with the issues our rapidly-changing state faces.

Be sure to check out both Inside Nevada Politics and Desert Beacon.
