One of my constituents has responded to my call for assistance in picking a Democratic nominee for President to support in the Nevada Caucus. Here’s what Ross had to say:
David -
Not that my opinion should come as any surprise but I think you should take a close look at supporting Governor Richardson. Not just because I think he’s the best candidate but because when I look at the candidates, his positions seem to be closely aligned with yours. Examples:
In the legislature you proved yourself to be the “Green Assemblyman”; making the environment, energy and conservation top priorities. The League of Conservation Voters has said of Richardson’s energy/environmental plan, “This plan, if adopted, would restore America’s reputation as a leader in technology and science”
Like most Western Democrats you are supportive of America’s sportsmen, even receiving the primary endorsement from the NRA. Governor Richardson also understands the needs of sportsmen to feel secure in their right to pursue their passion in the outdoors; in fact, Richardson was endorsed by the NRA in his last bid for Governor.
Education is also a high priority for you and although we may have to deal with Governor Gibbons in Nevada, New Mexico was lucky enough to see great improvements in education under Richardson’s watch. As he stated in Las Vegas last month, he will work to continue reforms in education if elected President.
In summary, Richardson embodies the Western Values that you and I know as Nevadans. He described them in his 2006 inaugural as:
1) our belief in hard work and self-reliance,
2) our respect for our land and water,
3) our bonds of family and community,
4) and our insistence on responsibility. These are the types of Western Values we need in our White House.
Once again, thank you for all your hard work in the assembly. I think it is really cool that you are giving your constituents a chance to share their views on the 2008 race.
Thanks for the input Ross!
